This edition of The Spiritual Rose provides information on the Irish of south-east Ulster in use in the early part of the nineteenth century. Particular attention is paid to the relationship between the orthography of the text and the written Irish of the 17th-19th centuries. A detailed comparison is also made between textual spellings and the Irish spoken in the 1950s in Omeath, Co. Louth.
