Mac Curtin's `Annals of Innisfallen'

19th cent. Paper. 22 × 18 cms. 142 pp. There is not signature but the handwriting appears to be that of Pól Ó Longáin (cf. G 75 above). The pagination is scribal and the initial capital illuminated. Bound in three- quarter leather with marbled end-papers; `Annals of Innisfallen' in gilt and `10836' labelled on spine, `Phillipps MS 10836', `Mss Ph 10836', on verso of first end-paper.

Followed (p. 1) by a summary of material deriving ultimately from Leabhar na gCeart (corresponding more or less to ed. Dillon ITS xlvi lines 142-1412) and including a prose tract on the manner of inauguration, on the officers and on the rights of the kings of Connacht headed (p. 5) `Ag so an mOdh na noirnthighe ríograidh Connacht do réir órduigthe Náomh Páttraig', beg. Dá easpog déag do bheith láithreach (cf. RIA B iv 1 9a m). This is followed (p. 14) by an account of the Battle of Magh Mucraimhe and its cause headed `Ag so mar leannus an chúis f'ár cuireadh Cath Múighe Mocruimhe ionar thuit Art mac Cuinn rígh Éirionn ┐ Eoghan Mor maraon lena dhearbhráithre', beg. Éoghan Mor, Cormac Cas ┐ Cian trí mic Oilill Óluim and ending (p. 17) Is mar so do fuair Fínghín Mac Carrtha tuarasgbháil an chatha so a Leabhar Droma Sneachtaig. Do shealbhuig Mac Con ríaghacht Éirionn triochad bliaghuin. The Annals proper immediately follow beg. (p. 17) 250 San mbliadhain do shuig Cormac mac Airt a ríoghacht Éiriond ┐ do riaghluidh dá xx bliadhain. The last date in the Annals is 1435 (p. 139) and the last entry (p. 141) Áodh Baoí Ó Néill mac Briain ... do theacht air mhac Áongusa agus a dhís mac do mharbhadh.

This compilation is ascribed by Joseph O Longan to Aodh Buidhe Mac Cruitin (RIA Cat. Ir. MSS, p. 1871). Most of the extant copies were written by members of the Ó Longáin family.
