Miscellaneous

18th cent. Paper. 16 × 105 cms. This is a printed copy of Mícheál Ó Cléirigh's Foclóir nó Sanasán Nuadh (Louvain 1643) bound in with a manuscript of approximately 174 pages containing miscellaneous items written by Charles O Conor, 1766-73. The volume was given to O Conor by Sylvester O Halloran in 1765 (p. xii). A modern pencilled pagination fills the gaps in the scribe's numbering; there is an error however in the latter, the scribe having skppped 15. Items have been added to the printed text by the scribe on pp. 33,101. The following scribal entry occurs at the end of the Dedication in the printed text: `130 bliadhain gus an la aniú do scribhadh sin ghuas las an mbrathair ua Cléirigh'.

Bound in brown calf with `Focloir Scan[...] Hao[...]' gilt-lettered on spine: `D[uke] of B[uckingham] 1849', `5980/2', `3149' (cancelled) and `25896' inside front cover, now p. i; `Phillipps MS 25896' on p. ii. O'Conor's book-plate is labelled on the verso of the Approbation of the printed text. Pages in the manuscript have been torn away before p. 1 and after pp. 33, 143. Not listed in Phillipps's Catalogus.
