Foras Feasa ar Éirinn

18th cent. Paper. 35.5 × 22 cms. 151 ff. (i-vi with some leaves missing following vi, 3-151 with 1-2, 132, 144, 149-50 now mising [two blank unnumbered leaves are inserted in place of each missing folio]). Scribe: Aodhagan Úa Rathaille, 1722 (f. 142r). F. iii verso has a scribal numbering 2, but does not appear to be the missing (misplaced) f. 2 here; it is possibly a fragment (bound here in reverse) of a different volume also written in 1722 by the same scribe for `Ruighri mhic Seaain Oig Mhic Sithe' (f. iii verso). An unidentified contemporary hand wrote the poem on f. iv r, the last stanza of which, however, is in a different hand, signed Seághann Ó Túadhma with the date 1731. This latter leaf may also not have formed part of the original manuscript. Another unidentified hand wrote f. 133r (except the last line).

Bound in three-quarter leather with `Keating's History of Ireland / Transcript by O'Rahilly' gilt-lettered on spine and binder's three blank leaves after the front cover and before the back cover. Printer's proof (stamped `University Press Office Trinity College Dublin' and dated `12/7/00') of section V of Introduction, ed. Dinneen, Dánta Aodhagáin Uí Rathaille, ITS iii (1900) is pasted on recto of second and third front blank leaves. `Eugene O'Reilly / County of Meath' and stamp of Royal Dublin Society on f. i; `As lochtach an leabhar é seo' signed `Eoghan Ó Comhraidhe' and dated 1842 is written in pencil on the recto of the first blank unnumbered leaf following f. 148. Cropping of margins has caused loss of scribal numbering in several places.
