Translations of the Book of Invasions

19th cent. Paper. 32 × 20 cms. 155 ff. with modern pencil foliation. Writing on recto only. Scribe: Eugene O'Curry (unsigned and undated). Another hand has contributed comments etc. in pencil in several places on the verso. Bound in three-quarter leather with marbled endpapers and `M.S.S. Translation of Book of Invasion by O'Curry' in gold on spine. Purchased in November 1929 from the Library of Fr. Timothy Lee and sold by Sexton & Sons, Limerick, for £3.15.0.

The manuscript consists of (part translation and part summary of):

(a) ff. 1-108 The Book of Invasions from the Book of Lecan with folio references.

(b) ff. 109-16 Similar matter from TCD H.2.15 (ms 1316) and H.2.17 (ms 1319) with page references.

(c) ff. 117-24 Excerpts relating to Partholan etc `from Dubhaltach Mac Firbis' with page references.

(d) f. 125 Pedigree of the Fomorians from Rawlinson B 502.

(e) f. 126 The Second Battle of Magh Tuiredh from Harl. 5280.

(f) f. 132 Miscellaneous excerpts from (i) `The Report of the Highland Soceity respecting Ossian' (ii) `Mr. Mason's Ms'.

(g) ff. 133-53 Sex Actates Mundi from the Book of Lecan with folio references. Ff. 154-5 blank.
