Transcript of Mac Curtin's Grammar

18th cent. Paper. 16 × 9.5 cms. 68 ff. (scribal 2-65 with f. 1 and three folios following 65 now torn away). Scribe: Seá(a)n (Seadhan) Macantsáo(i)r, 1744 (ff. 18 v, 38 v, 48 r, 52 v, 56 r, 58 v, 60 v, 65 v). The entry on f. 1 and the items of ff. 66 v, 68 r were however written after 1770 (see below).

The book-plate of `John Lube' (motto `Gaiscead ┐ Crodas') and the name `Longfield' occur inside the front cover. Bound in leather simply tooled. Purchased by the National Library in 1932 (no sum given).

The grammar beg. (f. 2 r) with `The Irish Grammer or an Introduction to the Irish Language / First Chapter / an c. chaibidil' and ends (f. 65 v) with `Some Notations of numbers in y^e Irish'. `Finit. Míle [cancelled] seacht céad déag ┐ ceithre blaidhain ar dha fhithchid. m. dcc.xxxx iiii. Seadhan Macantshaoír.' A transcript of Hugh Mac Curtin's Elements of the Irish language, grammatically explained in English. In 14 chapters. Lovain 1728. This is followed here (f. 66 r) by an `Index' to the 14 chapters.
