Eochairsciath an Aifrinn

18th cent. Paper. 18 × 14 cms. 168 pp. numbered 3-170. The main scribe is unidentified as is the hand who wrote a number of lines of the text on pp. 69, 81, 84, 86, 87, 88, 106; a third hand (pp. 141m-144), however, is that of Seaghan O Conaill (unsigned here, but cf. RIA 24 L 5 [dated 1764], 24 L 6, pp. 61-67 etc.). The unidentified paginator of the manuscript also filled in the relevant page-numbering in the table of contents on pp. 167-8. Part of p. 3 has been retraced. The following former owners' names occur on the verso of the front endpaper: `re Mícéil Céitinn an leábhar so'; `Huilliam Uadh Moráin'; `liomsa an leabhar so / P. Ua Cearmoda / aois ár dTighearna 1891'.

Bound in full leather, now very worn, with the endpapers now detached from both covers. The cropping of margins has caused loss of text in several places and loss of an entry on p. 170 low. marg. (inverted) leaving only the date `1765'. Purchased for £1 from Mrs. Carroll, Aylesbury Road, Dublin in May 1936.
