Transcript of Hardiman's `Irish Minstrelsy'

19th cent. Paper. 19 × 12 cms. 182 unnumbered pages. Scribe: Ludwig Chr. Stern, 1888. Bound in half-leather with `Hardiman / Irish Ministrelsy ms.' gilt-lettered on spine. A statement in French on the recto of the first flyleaf signed by Henri Gaidoz and dated `Paris 1 Janvier 1912' says the volume was given to him by Stern's widow; the letter from her to that effect is glued to the front endpaper. Purchased on 30 October 1934 by the National Library from Hodges Figgis & Co.

The volume consists of transcripts of the Irish poems in Hardiman's Irish ministrelsy (London 1831) vols. I-II with notes in German. Those poems also printed in Walsh's Irish popular songs (Dublin 1847) are, as indicated by the scribe, omitted here.
