Late 19th or early 20th cent. (watermark 1891). Paper. 23.5 × 9 cms. 184 pp. with scribal numbering on pp. 3-26 only. Originally intended perhaps as a log book for some survey (`check surveys when made', etc, p. 7; `Places surveng' [sic], etc., p. 181), it was later used by two or more unidentified persons for notes and jottings. Many leaves are blank. Bound in green parchment with two metal clasps for fastening. Purchased by Séamus Ó Casaide in December 1913 from Henry Sotheran and Co., 140 Strand, London, for eight shillings and six pence (letter to that effect from the latter loose in ms). A folded sheet of paper, 32 × 21 cms, containing the Lord's Prayer and the Credo in Irish with semi-phonetic script, in another unidentified hand, is loosely inserted. Jottings inside front cover include `Cost of building a steamship in France 450 horse power in 1840 1700000f.', `Seamus Ua Casaide 29.xii.1913'. Ó Casaide ms 21.
